About PYA
Playaz Youth Academy is about changing the lives of young people by focusing on building essential character & life skills through the sport of basketball on the island of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines.
A registered non-profit sporting program, it focuses on working with all youth from 7-22 years old and is completly supported by volunteers and donations.
From Dream to Team
PYA was born from the vision & determination of one man.
St. Vincent native, Orlando Fergusson, fell in love with basketball. He played for the St. Vincent National team to winning the Canada West Rookie of the year while playing for the University fo Victoria in British Columbia from 2201-2002.
When he returned home to SVG, 'Playa', wanted to pass on the knowledge & passion he had for the sport by starting a community club called "Crushers".
The need to provide young people an opportnity to engage
in productive activity to deter delinquency &
build quality life skills became an integral part of his vision
and Playaz Youth Academy was born.

PYA's Mission is to:
- Provide a safe and structured setting for learning & playing basketball
- Empower youth with life skills of character, good decision making and working with others
- Improve the quality of life of young people as they work to reach their personal goals
PYA's Vision is to:
Provide the highest quality coaching in both the skills of basketball and foundational life essentials for young people to attain their goals with self-empowerment while exercising character, teamwork and good decision making.
We believe that our youth are truly our future, value diversity, promote equality, and challenge discrimination.
